The Uncomfortable In Between
Many of us stand on the precipice of a new life that we cannot yet see. We know we need to leave our old lives behind, the old patterns that are not serving us and which our inner voice is silently whispering to “let this go, let it go…let it go.”
And yet we hang onto the devil we know because the fear of the unknown feels so scary that we would rather just keep dealing with the pain of old, outdated patterns that we know we need to outgrow.
For some of us, it’s the news channels we listen to…the ones that while they trigger our feelings of anger and outrage, this feels far better than the feelings of uncertainty and powerlessness we felt before.
For others, it may be lower energy forms such as alcohol or cigarettes that give us a temporary respite from the uncomfortable feelings that we’re feeling.
Whatever habit or pattern you’re holding onto, if you’re reading this, it’s time to let it go.
Yes, it feels scary to let it go, but face that fear…feel the fear and allow yourself to surrender as completely as you can to it…understanding that the fear is only relatively real and that the thoughts the feeling have spawned for so long have limited you from stepping into a whole new reality.
I read something this week that hit me differently than before.
It said, “Decisions are portals.”
I perceive a “portal” as stepping into a different dimensional reality and in thinking about it this way, I realize now that I have been in a portal loop for years, making the same decisions over and over. It always felt like a choice and the feeling of being able to make that choice vs. just being in limbo waiting for something to happen kept me stuck in a life that I had outgrown.
While I have long known that the feeling of the in between portion of a paradigm shift can be uncomfortable, I hadn’t allowed myself to feel the discomfort of some big shifts long enough to even realize that’s what was happening.
Last week, I started doing a meditation I found on YouTube called “Into the Unknown” by Dexter and Alessandrina. It helped me realize that I could just relax into the feeling of not knowing how my new world will unfold and to allow myself to feel the layers of fear, discomfort, uncertainty, etc. to become not only comfortable with the feeling of the unknown, but to embrace it. Once I practiced this meditation over and over, not only did it become comfortable, but the feeling of hope, excitement, joy and peace became more palpable, which I know opens new portals of possibility for me to choose and step through with action…like writing this post after not having written for almost a year.
What habit or pattern is your inner voice asking you to release from your life?
Realize that whatever you hold onto is filling an energetic space that could be filled by something you only dream of now. Let go of the devil you know and understand that you will experience the discomfort and anxiety while you move through the unknown.
Do it anyway. Face the feeling of discomfort and fear. Feel it and tell it that it will never control you again.
You are stronger than any fear you have. It’s time to release your fear and step into the unlimited possibility that lies beyond.
